In the Nats-Brewers game on July 18 (won by Milwaukee, 4-2) there - TopicsExpress

In the Nats-Brewers game on July 18 (won by Milwaukee, 4-2) there was a controversial play. As the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports: It didnt take long to have our first umpiring controversy of the second half. With Denard Span running after a leadoff single, Anthony Rendon grounds to shortstop Jean Segura. Span is called safe ahead of the throw at second but Scooter Gennett relays to first in time to get Rendon. But umpire Angel Campos then calls Rendon out because of interference on Spans slide into Gennett. Manager Matt Williams comes out to argue for the Nats and after all four umps have a lengthy confab, Span is called out but Rendon is safe at first because apparently the intereference (sic) made it a dead ball. So, what? If a team is going to turn two against you, you can just intefere (sic) with the throw at second to avoid it? Interesting. What the JS doesnt report is Angel Campos reversed his safe call on Span immediately, saying he was out. During the post game show, the Nats radio guys commented that the MLB Director of Officials (or whatever the hell the Head Ump is called) was *at* the game, and even he said he was going to have to go down to the Umpire room after the game to get them to explain it. Its over and done; the Nats played like doggie doo that night and lost. MLB has been dead silent on it ever since. But does anyone, ANYONE ever recall a time when MLB admitted a call by the ump was blown after the game, as has happened with the NFL?
