I’ve been producing seriuosly for just over 3 years now, Ive been playing guitar since i was younger so I’ve always had guitars, amps and effect boxes around the house to make noises with. I fell in love with electronic music when i went to my first rave at 16 in Liverpool, it was such an eye opener for me. What are production methods? Studio wise i guess i was always gonna be a hardware type of guy. Over the past few years i steadily built my studio up of various synths, drum machines, guitars, samplers ect nothing of huge expensive tho, Hardware includes, Juno 106, Korg Delta,Moog Minitaur, Roland D5, Esonique Mirage, OP1, TR707, Novation drumstation, xoxbox, ultranova, Roland vp9000, revox reel to reel, plus a load of other bits and pieces, controllers, effects ect. Software i use a few free synths and FX. Tal Audio do some great plugins, I also use UA plugins. I use a lot of midi and fire it all up with Ableton, i was using logic for a good while but I’m much quicker with Live and its great to sync all the hardware up! Whats the story behind Magic Man? Magic Man came about from me getting a new sound card and i wanted to record all parts using no samples or sample packs thru the preamps and see how it sounded.I just started with a simple beat then added some guitar parts, then a few hooky synth lines, bass, i had no vocals at this point but for some reason i wanted to make a song about magic, so i was speaking with a mate and we were just discussing all things to do with magic i.e. wands hats gloves ect. I then called an old school mate Glenn who i knew had always had a good voice and also featured on Mellow D but this time i wanted him to sound quite new romantic which was a bit out of his comfort zone but we had a few good takes on the first recordings, and those ended up being the final takes, so full credits to Glenn Barry on the quality vocals. What can we expect from you in the near future? Im currently working on a project with a London based female vocalist on a few tracks, i originally nicked a few snippets of vocals from a previous track we started but never finished and were looking at remaking a 90s track which I’ve always liked so looking forward to getting that started. Ive also been asked to produce a track for a local songwriter and singer so will be interesting to see how that pans out. Magic Man is also available on Juno Download: junodownload/products/countersynth-magic-man-remixes/2561021-02/
