In the US, the FTC has received more than 700 complaints against Yelp. And here’s why. It appears sites like Yelp and Google Reviews employ review filters that don’t always work correctly. According to the businesses affected by all this, good customer reviews seldom show up, while the bad reviews are prominently visible on the front page. It’s even been suggested that Yelp could have a somewhat spurious motive for ‘suppressing’ positive reviews – allegations have been levelled against Yelp that they approach businesses with bad reviews in order sell them advertising to boost their ratings. Yelp denies the charge. https://openforum/articles/business-owners-fuming-over-online-review-sites/
