In the absolute hurry to become the PM, and the fear that any delay may give Jinna an advantage, he compromised, or rather sacrificed the lives and living of crores of Hindus in Bengal and Punjab as if those were his zamindari, even disregarding the warning and reluctance of Lord Mountbatten that a time buffer should be given for peaceful and proper transfer of the pat of the population. This bastard didnt have the sensitivity towards his fellow countrymen (just the races who did most of the fight for independence) which even a racist British Lord had. If S P Mukherjee didnt put up a fight and threatened a complete shutdown, the whole Bengal would have been given to Pakistan. Let him burn in hell for ever.
