In the ad industry, there are 3 worlds; the real world, the magic world and the delusional world. Reason alone keeps you in the real world. Its ok to be in that realm. Its a functional place, but a place with no imagination. Its a dry place and it drains the soul of meaning and eventually bleeds you dry. On the extreme end, is the world of delusion. The world of the false ego. The place where insecurity breeds. A place where we lie to ourselves about our importance and a place where we are obsessed with glory and self-immortalisation that feeds on the surreal desire to be a self-proclaimed demigod. Its a destructive place that robs the soul of dignity. But somewhere in between these two realms lies a world of magic. Its hard to find. Its a fragile world. And even if we find it, we can be swung off course by the pendulum of shortsightedness and lack of will. But its there, this magic world. Its a happy place of purpose. Its a place of delicate balance between reality and delusion. I suppose it can be called the Utopia of Adland. The Shangri-La of this industry. To many, its a myth and a fairy tale. It cannot and should not exist. Its foolishness to believe in its existence. The journey there is wrought with frustrations and heartaches, surrounded by nay-sayers, arm chair critics and doubting Thomases, who mock you in secret. The realist will call me a silly dreamer. The delusional will call me childish. Many will loose faith if faith was there at all. But its there. And I dont care what people say and how many mistakes I make, but I will find it. And when I do, I will open its doors wide open.
