In the aftermath of the realization that Russia is a state that sponsors terrorism, it should be clear to all world leaders that this country needs to be treated like Iran or North Korea. The attitude that Russian leadership (Putin) may be crazy, but the good ordinary people of Russia are just victims does not reflect reality. We know that Putins popularity has increased exponentially since the invasion of Ukraine and that more than three quarters of the Russian people support the dictators actions. Russia should thus be completely isolated on the world stage, both economically and politically, and should be left to rot in its own filth. The debate about the economic losses to the EU and the West should sanctions be imposed has to change in the aftermath of the tragedy of Malaysia MH 17. The supreme economic interest of any society should be the lives of its people. To put it differently, you can have all the wealth in the world if you lose your most precious possession, human life. So its about time that companies losing money became a lower priority for the West. Russia needs to be hit hard and it needs to be hit now. Otherwise, the long-term credibility of both the EU and of NATO will greatly suffer.
