In the afternoon Marilyn and I visited "Great Oaks"Antebellum Plantation Mansion in Greenwood Florida, just north of Marianna. One of two large pre-Civil War Jackson county Plantations. Great Oaks has been keep in good repair. Built by slaves in 1860 this house still has original glass in windows. The wood-stove kitchen is long gone but recently marked. A garage, storm windows were added. The smokehouse is now gone but the Servant shanty is still erected and used as workshop. Only 10 acres of this 7000 acres estate remains. In photos note the suspension of the Exteriors "Widow Walks" within the wooden Columns. Mansion is 5 miles west of Two Egg Florida. NOTE:..... THIS HOUSE IS BLOCKS AWAY FROM THE OLDEST actively open HARDWARE STORE...Pender Store, facing Highway 71 around the corner from the Irwin House (ANOTHER OLD PRE-CIVIL WAR HOUSE), was built in the years after the Civil War and is one of the oldest operating stores in Florida. *****FOR SELL approx $350.000 *** Great Oaks Beautiful Palladian style home on 10+ acres in Greenwood, Florida. This unique home was named Great Oaks by the former owner who lovingly restored the 1860s built home, because of the majestic live oaks that line the street in front of the home.
