With a full heart, a mind racing, my energy gone, but my soul awakened. I made new friendships and strengthened old ones, learned about life, challenged my assumptions, opened up my eyes to new views - in life, and literally - helped others in need, and in turn felt helped by my time with them. We were told at the start of our 8 days in Guatemala with the MILE that this trip was an introduction to service, but what I really needed was a reminder - to keep going, to do more, to redouble my efforts. The hardest part is just deciding to begin giving back, to start changing - from within, so as to affect others around you. The easy part is continuing. Really. You cant fathom what 30 people can do together, all pulling in one direction with all their might - mountains can be moved, language barriers shattered, lives altered. There is no word needed for heartfelt hugs, no international sign more obvious than a child smiling, no translation needed to share the lifeblood that is music - to feel the pulse of rhythm across cultures and ages, lifestyles and locations. A song is universal, clapping along is an innate instinct, nodding heads unite as one. The effect you may have on a life could be immeasurable, and will remain unknown - until you give it a try. Listen carefully inside yourself, and answer the call....
