In the book of Isaiah, the Lord explained that many of His people were drawing near with their lips but their hearts were far from Him. There was a religious atmosphere, as the people participated in religious behavior that they had been taught, that had been mandated by their customs and traditions. But, although they were doing religious things; they were doing their religious activities without a true heart for the Lord, without true faith in the Lord. They were going through the motions. And because of this, the Lord said through Isaiah in Isaiah 29:11, “The whole vision has become to you like the words of a book that is sealed, which men deliver to one who is literate, saying, ‘Read this, please.’ And he says, ‘I cannot, for it is sealed.’” Because of their heartless, faithless religious activity the Word of God was like a sealed scroll to them.
