In the city of Faribault as in most cities there is this thing called the Leash Law. This means that any companion animal that is outside needs to be on a leash or in a fenced in area. You can not have pets loose that will wander off your property unless they are on a 6 foot lead. This leads to a lot of issues...one retractable leashes...guess what...not a 6 foot lead, not made for walking down the road. Secondly, outdoor animals....if they are not in a fenced in area or a kenneled area or chained with proper housing (dog house, off the ground, warm and dry), you cant keep them outside. This means, keeping a cat in the city limits as a outdoor pet is illegal. You can be fined! Cats are NOT outdoor pets in the city limits!!!! If your cat is spraying, try getting him neutered....if you cant afford it tough...find a way, you got a pet take care of it...do what is right by them, leaving them loose outside is cruel and inhumane!!! In the city they dont have the option of going to a warm barn. Until we, as responsible humans take care of our pets this issue of stray and feral animals will never get better. Yes, its a issue, yes, animals are suffering. Why? Because of irresponsible humans...:( Sad... This is not our responsibility as a rescue to cover your butts, we can only do so many, it up to you to skip a night out, skip a few McDonalds meals, a case of beer, whatever is needed to afford to take care of your pet. Please...its cold outside, be responsible..if you cant be responsible dont get a pet!!! If we deny to adopt to you because your reason for returning a pet is if you move, well we are denying you because you want a rent a pet...keep it while its good for you, we want forever homes, good homes, warm homes for every pet we have.
