In the current US basketball team 12 are Afro-Americans and 3 are Caucasian. I think the trend is continuing for the last 30 years. Yet basketball remains one of the the most popular sport in US. Caucasian Americans havent shunned since they do not get representation. In US track and field the team has no one other than Afro-Americans. No complaints here too. All I could recall are Arthur Ashe and zina Garrison as the Afro-American tennis players. No Afro-American seems to complain. A casual glance tells that just 2 Afro-Americans were there in ATP Top 20 in the last 20 years. No complaints here too! Tiger woods is considered GOAT ( Greatest of All times) but were there any Afro-American Golfer of repute before? Despite their greater physical endurance, havent seen an Afro-American in swimming. The Caucasian despite claiming racial superiority hasnt come anywhere near the 10 sec Mark in 100 meters. Chinese who reap gold medals in tonnes in all games could not crack the top 50 in tennis! Excellence in sports is beyond caste colour , nationality and creed and a natural always shines! It requires absolute joblessness with a punctured ego soaked in frustration , to say the Cricket in TN is dominated by Brahmins. Blogs after blogs people write that Brahmins choose cricket because it is a non-contact sport. Now the complaint is that why others are not picked in the team. This is akin to an atheist demanding the அர்ச்சகர் job. TN cricket is not without its favouritism and bias. District players are / were consistently neglected. VV Kumar ( Tanjore) , Kalyanasundaram ( Trichy / Coimbatore) are some names that come to mind. கண்டரி ஃபெலோஸ்! for 1979 World Cup ordinary Bharath Reddy was picked over Kirmani. The captain was Venkat (TN) , the manager Gopinath (TN) , BCCI sec Sriram (TN) ...no complaints..eh! Kirmani s batting would have been handy in the Oval test when we chased 400 +.Reddy as the name suggests was not a Brahmin :) . The bane of Indian cricket is regionalism and not caste. When GRV was the chairman Sunil Joshi , Raguram Bhat, Sujit Somasundar, Johnson ....all below average players got a chance. Shivalkar had more Ranji wickets than Bedi. He was a Brahmin. But was never picked. Hailed as the fastest bowler of his times Pandurang Salgaonkar , another Brahmin, was never picked , because he was from Goa... Regional representation has been an issue even in Australia and West Indies. ( Tasmania , leeward islands ). Bringing in caste into everything this is an indian innovation. I like the Indian Hockey team, Kabbadi team, Archers, Rifle shooters. But forgot to count the Brahmins in the lot. what next ? Chess? That would be interesting!
