In the current tattoo climate of new school work that is - TopicsExpress

In the current tattoo climate of new school work that is approached from a realistic perspective with shading, Im feeling a bit lost on how my style can be defined. I feel like I am a new school artist, but I base myself so firmly in 90s sensibilities of illustration and early style new school tattooing, that I often wonder if Im just a dinosaur waiting for extinction. I know I have my own distinction of style, but can it stand up against the enormous talent that we see today? Am I refusing to grow in a certain direction? Or am I bucking the current popular notions? Does that make me stubborn or does it make me a nonconformist? These are questions I ask myself all the time. I try to push my work to greater heights, but I dont want to be derivative or hop on a wagon when I truthfully dont feel comfortable with it. Ive always seen myself as being on the outside of popularity since I was a kid, and its continued into my career. Ive built a solid client base and I am truly thankful for the people who enjoy my work. Especially since I never follow trends in tattooing. In the end, I just try to stay true to what I love to do, and create designs that make me and my clients happy. Lets hope I dont end up a dinosaur.
