In the days of my youth I had the good fortune to be under the - TopicsExpress

In the days of my youth I had the good fortune to be under the tutelage of a gentleman named M. Francis Christie. (PhD, Vanderbilt, Philosophy of Religion as I recall). One day in class, during a lecture on epistemology, he remarked that one result of an increase in knowledge is that one has an increasing awareness of how vast his ignorance really is. I took umbrage with that statement, cleared my throat and got ready to challenge him. Surely, I thought, an increase in knowledge could lead to no such realization. As I was about to speak, flashing through my mind were recollections of others, more intelligent than I, who had locked horns on such matters with Dr Chrisite. The sudden remembrance of those encounters had me receding back into my chair, for I knew not once where the challenger had prevailed (except in one instance, but in that case the challenger had resident within 50% of his being Dr Christies DNA). So. As I drove the wilds of South Arkansas today and noticed the road sign pointing the way to Junction City, AR, the place of his birth, I could not help but think of him one more time. Heres to you Dr. C. Once again, I must admit you were correct, and again lament that for every pearl of wisdom you laid at our feet, scores must have gotten by us unnoticed.
