In the days when Israel was in the wilderness, God provided manna - TopicsExpress

In the days when Israel was in the wilderness, God provided manna for them. The word manna literally means “what is it?” I think the reason that God gave them only enough for each day and that they could not store it up for tomorrow is a lesson for us today. God gives us “our daily bread” and we are told to pray this in the Lord’s Prayer. I think that this is God’s way of saying that today I will give you just enough grace to help you make it through today. I can not give you grace for tomorrow until it gets here. I believe this makes us seek His face each and every day for the Bread of Life. Jesus is that Bread that came down from heaven. I need to feed on that Bread each and every day. Today’s Bread is only good for today and not tomorrow. No wonder God had them go out each and every morning to pick it up. It would only last for that day. I need to feed on this Bread daily. If we feed on the Word of God, we can have more than enough to get us through the day. I heard Chip Ingram, from Living on the Edge ministries, say that he reads the Word before he eats his breakfast. This keeps him focused on the One Who sustains us day by day. I try to follow this example to read His Word before I eat anything. This reminds me that He is our sustenance. When my morning coffee and oatmeal run out…the Bread of Life keeps me going. He shows me His tender mercies everyday by giving me life, family, food, shelter, work, and reminds me that without the Bread of Life, I’ll have a famine of the Word. I need it each and every day. And just like the manna, He gives me just enough for today. “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassion never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness” – Lamentations 3:22-23 This daily devotional was written by Pastor Jack Wellman a writer at What Christians Want To Know.
