In the early 1900s, my dad worked for Londons Grocery (located across from California Sandwich Shop where that large tract of land is) and on occasion they would have a drawing for Gold Coins at the intersection of Batson and Market Street. The Forrest County Court can be seen at the top of the hill (end of Batson). Notice some of the signage on buildings and the Drug Store just up on the left in the picture. Polks Livery Stable was located further on up on the left; it was still there when Sears was located across the street. I remember going over, climbing up and standing on the wood fencing/gates and looking at the livestock, etc. when my mom was shopping in Sears.
