In the early morning hours Saturday, Morgan County Deputies got into a vehicle pursuit. Deputies attempted to pull over a vehicle for a traffic violation in the Morgan City area. The vehicle failed to stop and lead deputies on a pursuit across the Tennessee River into Madison County. The vehicle turned onto Hobbs Island Rd. and continued several miles into the Owens Crossroads community. Deputies detained the subject, Preston Wade Russell, 28. Deputies observed a black duffel bag that contained an active One-Pot Meth Lab. Deputies contacted Owens Crossroads VFD until Agents with the Morgan County Drug Task Force could arrive. Agents arrived on the scene and dismantled the meth lab. Agents discovered the meth lab, acid, Drano, meth oil, lithium batteries, and syringes. Agents arrested Russell and charged him with Unlawful Manufacturing a Controlled Substance 1st, Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute, and Felony Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Russell was decontaminated and taken to the Morgan County Jail. Judge Howell set the bonds at $300,000.00. Mr. Russell was out on probation from a previous manufacturing charge. In another case that took place Saturday evening, Deputies attempted to stop a vehicle on Hulaco Rd. for a seat belt violation. The driver lead deputies on a pursuit into Marshall County. Marshall County deputies spiked the suspects car and flattened one of the tires. The chase ended at Mat Morrow Rd. and Evermore Rd. in Arab. The suspect, Brian Keith Kennedy, 46, fled on foot. Deputies discovered Kennedy hiding in a thicket with the help of a K-9. As deputies were securing Kennedy, they observed several plastic bags of Ice Methamphetamine. The Morgan County Drug Task Force was called to the scene and determined that Kennedy was in possession of 3 ounces of Ice Methamphetamine and over $2,500.00 in U.S. Currency. The meth has a street value of about $4,000.00. Mr. Kennedy was charged with Trafficking Methamphetamine and taken to the Morgan County Jail with a bond of $5,000.00.
