"In the face of relative and absolute non-being, there has to be an element of liberation. What I mean by liberation is a sort of existential transcendence or as Taylor nicely depicts it, a liminal component of African-American spirituality. This transcendence is liberatory because it affords African Americans with the wherewithal to transcend ontic and spiritual threats to being.
