In the fall of 1960, I was a college freshman at Ithaca College - TopicsExpress

In the fall of 1960, I was a college freshman at Ithaca College looking for a good meal. So my roommate and I joined a church discussion group...yes, I said church group....because they had free spaghetti and meatballs on Tuesday nights. So I would go there, eat, talk, sing a few hymns, and go home with a full belly. There were a whole lot of international kids in this group from both Ithaca College and COrnell University just up the hill. One of the things they did was to go up to Tompkins County Airport one night to greet some guy and his entourage who were going to speak at Cornell. We got free tickets as well. About 10 of us met him coming off the plane as he walked down the steps that they used to use back then in little airports. He walked toward us as we held up signs which welcomed him. I shook his hand, said hi, and went back to the dorm. The next night I went to hear him speak at a huge hall at Cornell. I was blown away by his words. Yes, I will never forget the day I met Martin Luther King!
