In the fall of 1970 I got a notice that I was to report to a location in Sunbury on a certain day to go to New Cumberland for a physical. My Government was in the beginning stages of drafting me into the Army. I had married in the summer of 1969 and we had a boy in early Spring of 1970. I was breezing along in my physical when one doctor sent me aside for a further exam. I had a slight heart murmur. Though it wasnt enough to keep me out I was given a years deference. When 1971 came the draft was only taking 18-20 year olds. I had 2 sons by then and was not drafted. I had a good chance of going to Nam had I been drafted. The young men who fought in that war we just as much heroes as those who fought in any of or other wars. I am planning a trip to DC and want to know if anyone in my Class knows where I could find the name of Leroy Westra on the Viet Nam Memorial Wall? I just want to remember him and to give thanks to a Classmate, a football player, someones son, and friend. Maybe they have something for which I can find online, but I was going through my dads medals and papers when I seen his Viet Nam stuff he had kept and given to me. He was there in 1965-66. Thank God he came back alive.
