In the final analysis, I see the power elite as belonging to a class of their own, operating for their own interests irrespective of any other allegiances that they claim. The Bushes, Putins, Blairs, Rothschilds, Saudi royalty, etc of the world are basically a cartel. I have no sense of commonality with any of them, irrespective of their claimed national, religions or political affiliations. I have much more in common with ordinary people everywhere than I do with some amoral bastard who claims to speak for me because of an imagined shared identity.
