In the first part of 1 Corinthians chapter 10, Christians are - TopicsExpress

In the first part of 1 Corinthians chapter 10, Christians are given 4 examples of how the Israelites who had been miraculously delivered from slavery in Egypt nevertheless disobeyed God and sinned badly…and how God inflicted severe punishment on them because of it. It says that the examples are given to us as a warning- a warning not to do as they did. Because God can and does inflict earthly punishment on Christians as a result of outright disobedience and persistent sin just like he did in response to the Israelites behavior. As with many of those Israelites, God can and does discipline Christians, sometimes up to and including an early earthly death. The warning in 1 Corinthians 10 is clear: “Be careful that YOU don’t fall” (verse 12). God the Son took on a human body, was humiliated, tortured and killed on the cross to pay the price for your sins. He rose from that death to live again forever, and we who have saving faith in Him are promised that same eternal life after this earthly life is over. But woe to us if we trample His sacrifice into the ground by willfully and disdainfully disobeying the commands of God found in the Bible. If God severely punished His people after miraculously delivering them from slavery to Egypt, certainly He will not hesitate to severely punish those of us who have been miraculously rescued from slavery to sin and eventual condemnation to hell but yet blatantly and purposely disobey Him. If we think God wouldn’t discipline us for such behavior, we are wrong…possibly “dead wrong.”
