In the heart of The Cape Flats. We grew up quite poor , we never really knew it because I just remember feeling really happy growing up with my siblings and very loving parents and cousins . There were many nights in the cold of winter and the dreary thought that we may not have any food to eat for supper , well that never lasted , we would eventually eat. My mom was a very hopeful person , lots of imaan / faith that if you believe ... Everything will be ok . She would make something from nothing , a barren fridge and just a few breadcrumbs laying on the kitchen table , a few minutes later we would eat , Alghamdullilah . And the food she made tasted so good , so delicious . I remember one night , the lights was off and we ate by candle light ... And what we ate is still a hot topic today ... The leftover carcass of the smoked chickens after the meat has been removed . I thoroughly enjoyed every bone ... The feeling of melancholy never lingered ... It was always kicked out of the front door by mom and dad ... Although we did not grow up with much , there was an abundance of love , hope and kindness . My mother never turned anyone away who was hungry , and even those who needed a place to sleep . Friends and Family knew ... Day or night they can come , in pain or hungry ... In need of a nice chat and she would be there .... Without falter .... Those days are all gone ... But I hold on tight to its memory ... It is the place where I find my strength every day .... May we always cherish our beloved parents and treat them well , Be kind to one another ... Forgive ... And dont stop with the good deeds . My mom always told us that our Almighty sends His Angels to us everyday ... Testing us .... Our Almighty will send us messages in the most unlikely places .... Will make us humble with lessons learned , to make us appreciate every piece of bread we eat and warm bed at night we sleep ....and every bit of love from our family and friends we receive . A simple gesture of kindness can give hope to a person who lost all hope . It can .... Save a life .
