In the last calculated data Trinidad and Tobago ranked 2nd in the world in carbon dioxide per capita. And while we are aware that the petroleum industry is responsible for about 90% of these emissions, we think that taking personal and commercial responsibility for our own activities is part of the solution. At Soular we try to dry everything in the sun - bananas, cocoa beans for our nibs and our chocolate, plantain for our gluten free flour. We also grow spirulina which is a major carbon dioxide absorber. Pretty much the only electricity we use for production is the grinder for the chocolate and we will soon attach this to solar power. We drive as little as possible and try to organize our errands and deliveries to minimize number of trips. Because of the building design and location we dont use AC in our workspace and use minimal electric lighting. But one of the main contributions that we think we make to reduce emissions is in giving people the opportunity to buy local food and by using sailing as the export transport. International Transport has its own ranking (6th) in the Carbon Dioxide emissions country list and we hope to keep expanding our product line to play our part in reducing food importation in the country. You may not (yet) be able to reduce your own emissions, those of your business or those of the businesses from whom you purchase. But if you set an intention to do so then that will be the first step. And please feel free to ask us for encouragement and to share your progress on this page. We love taking this journey together.
