In the last couple of days, some Nigerians have been abusing and criticizing Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State for “deporting” Nigerians of Igbo nationality back to Anambra State. Deportation of Nigerians within Nigeria is wrong and condemnable. However, Fashola has denied the accusation before the media and before the nation – insisting that he engaged in “rehabilitation and resettlement and not deportation.” Where is Governor Peter Obi, his Anambra State counterpart, to give his side of the story? By the way: why didn’t the Igbo intellectual class complain when Igbo governors were deporting fellow Igbo, and in some cases sacking and compulsorily retiring fellow Igbo because they are not indigenes of the state they spent the better part of their working lives. My Igbo brothers and sisters should lean on their state governors to explain their many anti-Igbo tendencies and policies.
