In the last few years I lived in Korea, 1964 to 1969, I remember - TopicsExpress

In the last few years I lived in Korea, 1964 to 1969, I remember seeing AmerAsian children who had been abandoned by their mothers and shunned by society. Their presence gave me a real feeling of emotional turmoil. I felt sympathy, as they were blameless for their existence and made victims of their lineage. I also felt guilt, because I felt a bit of disgust that they were evidence of American GIs careless self-indulgence and poor Korean womens desperate or expedient resort to prostitution. Forty-four years later, I still feel shame for the discomfort I felt when a group of them were brought to Seoul Union Club, where I was a life guard, to swim. There is still a significant US military presence in Korea. Unfortunately, that means that there are still children being born who will be severely disadvantaged, both socially and economically. A recent TED talk presented one of their stories: wimp/storygirl/ I recommend it to any MKs.
