In the late 1980s, when Josef Koudelka was sleeping on the floor - TopicsExpress

In the late 1980s, when Josef Koudelka was sleeping on the floor at Magnum on La Rue Christine, I would go by to visit my friend in the evening, and yell up to see if Josef was there- and inevitably he would lean out of the window and scream, “David, va chercher une bouteille de rouge, et je nous ferais quelque chose a manger” (David- go get a bottle of red and I’ll fix us something to eat). I would run to the corner epicerie to get the ‘rouge’ and he would throw together some scrambled eggs with herbs, and we would sit together and share in conversation about photography, what we were both working on, and life into the late Paris evening. ©self portrait with Josef Koudelka, 1988.
