In the late 70s I used to love Sunday night TV on our local PBS station, Channel 11, WTTW. After the kids were in bed there were four BBC shows I loved to watch, 3 comedy shows and a Sci-Fi (and I am not a Sci-Fi person). I loved Dr. Who (maybe 4 or 5 incarnations ago, Who-ites will understand that). The others were Benny Hill (Wheres Lola), Fawlty Towers (Basil! Basil!) and lastly was an Irish comedian Dave Allen (I still quote his jokes) Here is one of them, its lengthy, but bear with me... The Irish love to play golf, but in Ireland it was considered a sin to play on Sunday. The local parish priest was addicted to golf, so one Sunday morning as dawn is breaking, the old priest is putting his ball on the tee before anyone can catch him. Up in Heaven, St. Peter looks down and sees this, he calls out, God, hey God, come over here and look at this. The priest is playing golf on the Sabbath, what are you going to do about it? God says, Dont worry, Ill take care of it. As they continue to watch, the priest rears back, smashes the ball. It is the best shot he has ever had in his life, 400 yards, straight down the fairway, hits on the edge of the green, bounces twice, and rolls the final 5 feet, hits the flag and falls into the cup. A hole in one. St. Peter goes ballistic and gets all red in the face, God I thought you were going to handle this, I thought you would punish him. God looks at St. Peter with a calm, sly smile and says, Whos he going to tell?
