In the late 70s / early 80s Britain had recovered from the mayhem of Python the goon show and the goodies and was settling back to safe middle class sitcoms that were well nice No no one can argue that felicity Kendall was a goddess but everything was well nice...... Then two brothers came along to the comedy store, stuck to fingers and a raspberry at the establishment and injected a little danger Next day alternative comedy was born Pioneers, instigators and comedic genius Along with Ben elton, Alexie sayle, french & Saunders, Harry Enfield, robbie coltrane, Lenny Henry and the mighty fry & laurie But even amongst such auspicious company there were only two names on every school boys lips Monday morning in the playground Ade Edmonson and rik mayall I love comedy in all its incarnations and geek out over classics like the 2 ronnies and morecombe and wise The weird like python and mighty boosh All standup and some truly great sitcoms But I was a punk and there was only one outlet for my tastes Rik Mayall you were an inspiration and can take solace from entertaining the nation, the world and inspiring geeks like me with this pure example of anarchy
