In the late 70s to mid 80s, I worked at Western Salt, Co in Chula Vista, CA, as an Operating Engineer. Lots of fond memories. According to this phone it would take 1383 minutes driving time to get there from here, so I think Ill just stay put. (Millie, your dad was a really great boss). One of my fond memories involves my buddy, Alan. Alan and I werent buddies till after I cut off one of his fingers (It was re-attached and we had lots of laughs about it later). When Alan would leave for work in the morning, hed tell his girlfriend, Well, off to the circus. One morning, her little boy grabbed his own lunch, and started to go with Alan. When they asked him what he was doing, he replied, I want to go to the circus with Alan. Circuses are a lot of fun. I havent been to the circus (unless you count my companys sales meetings) in several decades. One circus act I vaguely remember was a young woman riding a horse around the ring, and then get into a standing position, as she continued riding the horse. Now, whatever your opinion regarding circuses, you have got to admit, that took an incredible amount of skill. As I recall, a second horse was then brought in, and she placed one foot on each saddle and continued riding them both around the ring. But one thing I NEVER saw, was anyone simultaneously riding two horses that were going in OPPOSITE directions...until recently. I find it amazing and heartbreaking to see professing, perhaps actual Christians, trying to simultaneously ride two horses that are going in opposite directions. Please understand Im not referring to sinning through weakness or ignorance, falling, getting up, repenting and at least trying to stop committing some sin. None of us are perfect. Im referring to wilfully practicing things that are unmistakably and repeatedly labeled as sin in the New Testament, and then flippantly saying, Well, that falls under the same category as eating meats sacrificed to idols, and I have Christian liberty to do whatever I want in private, or some other such nonsense, wrenching Scripture completely out of context, making it say what it doesnt say, in order to rationalize whatever particular sin they happen to enjoy, while at the same time, claiming to love God, and giving testimonies at church or on Facebook that are so sweet theyd put a diabetic into a coma! Whatever happened to our sense of sin? Of holiness? Of living a godly life thats different from the World? And we wonder why lost people look at us, shake their heads in contempt, and say, No thanks. Your life is no different than mine is, and at least Im not a hypocrite! Christian brother or sister...THINK! Romans 6:1-2 1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? 2 God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? Romans 12:1-2 1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
