In the lead up to Narendra Modis UN assembly address yesterday, I - TopicsExpress

In the lead up to Narendra Modis UN assembly address yesterday, I got a bit bugged by the extensive news media coverage accorded to it by our national news channels. So, I ended up counting the number of such channels focusing on Mr. Modi as well as the number of experts providing their opinion on it. The count was a staggering 43 (what my basic Den Cable Network provides me with) with the number of experts touching close to 250. Not one single news channel for a three hour period (at least) gave me any news around how India did at the Asian Games or Miss Jayalalithas conviction. It was the first time after the National Elections that I was bothering with television news and I am unlikely to return to it anytime soon For me, all recent Indian Prime Ministers have spoken well at the UN. The UN has unfortunately been at the mercy of the major powers. Its independence today is more by accident than by design. I dont think any other Indian PM (across party lines) would have responded in any other manner, for what Mr. Modi did was the most obvious thing to do. The lauding of Mr. Modis show of courage reached orgasmic proportions in certain news studios. Mr. Modi has certain laudable qualities and oratory is indeed one of them. Whoever said content is king must be turning in his grave Before I get trolled, I am just placing Dr. Singhs address at the UNGA in September 2013 for your reference gadebate.un.org/sites/default/files/gastatements/68/IN_en.pdf. Couldnt really figure out too many differences in what was said by both PMs to be honest P.S.: All this unprecedented hype continues even today as I hear it loud and clear from from the adjacent room on a day when some of the spotlight could have been on a champion sportsperson - Varun Murali
