In the mid 1960s a group of bright and able young men waited tables, mixed drinks, greeted guests and washed dishes at a fashionable little restaurant on East 53d Street known as Cafe Europa. I have tried to write of it many times but have always failed. There was Caldarella and Pollaci, Louie the Puerto Rican lad, Gustavo with the devastating eyes, and the by nature charming De Guzman boys, and me. It was happenstance of either high design or elegant coincidence. From that stepping-stone I entered the office of the president of the American British Electric Corporation.
