In the mood for a rant on Political Correctness? So, Im not religious at all. This doesnt mean I get offended if someone says God Bless You when I sneeze. Also, If someone says something like that to me when they are ether concerned or thankful for something Ive said or done, I understand its a kind & sincere gesture on their part & am not offended. Merry Christmas, Happy Easter, etc also doesnt offend me. Yes, all religious holidays, but its their way of ether wishing me a great day in a cultural fashion or perhaps they understand although Im not religious, I may be observing the day or season in other ways (family gathering, holiday gifts, etc). If someone wants to send me holiday greetings by reminding me of what a religious figure has done or said or whatever of significance, Im not offended. However, I am starting to get annoyed because thats preachy & preachy is always annoying. On the flip side of things, most people I know are religious & most know I am not, & respect that. In fact, the people Im closest with will even have an open dialog with me about it & will share things with me in a very neutral & cultural fashion. Occasionally well even have a laugh about it all. These are the people I tend to respect most. Why? Because although we may feel very differently about a lot of things, al least we have open communication with one another. They understand me better, I understand them better. Yup, understanding is the key which may never be achieved if everyone is so worried about constantly offending... or being offended. A lot of this is pretty much my attitude on most every social / political subject as well. I dont know, we dont have to particularly agree on everything, but unless you want to move to an island of people who are exactly like you, its probably important to reasonably understand others will have a different point of view. If you really want to be happy, you may want to lighten up & get over your damn self as well ;)
