In the name of Allah, Most Compassionate, Most Merciful, It is impermissible – and at the least, disliked – to laugh at someone releasing wind/farting, especially in a scoffing manner. Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn Zam’a (Allah be pleased with him) relates that he heard Rasulullaah Salallahu Alayhi Wasallam giving a sermon (khutba)… Rasulullaah Salallahu Alayhi Wasallam admonished them about laughing at [someone] releasing wind, and said, “Why does one of you laugh at what he himself does?” (Sahih al-Bukhari no: 4653 and Sahih Muslim no: 5073) ______________________ Abdullah ibn Zam’a (Allah be pleased with him) relates that Rasulullaah Salallahu Alayhi Wasallam forbade that one laughs at [someone] releasing wind… (Sahih al-Bukhari no: 5703) _______________________ It is indeed impermissible and blameworthy to laugh at others upon hearing the sound of them releasing wind, since it is natural, and there is no logic in laughing at an act which one does himself. Moreover, if the laughter is accompanied by ridicule and mockery, then it constitutes a grave sin. Allah Most High says, “O you who believe, no men should ever scoff at other men. May be, the latter are better than the former. Nor should women [ever scoff] at other women. May be, the latter women are better than the former ones.” (Quran 49:11)
