The rocket had a the #Canadian Cassiope satellite on board. The satellites mission is to study the ionosphere and and space weather, and what effects upper atmospheric disturbances could have on the functionality of electronic equipment on the planets surface. The satellite was placed into geosynchronous orbit a few hours ago. The rocket was launched from Vandenberg AFB, in CA. Meanwhile, the #Russian Federation launched their Proton M rocket into orbit today. Its payload was carrying an Astra 2E telecommunications satellite, manufactured by the EADS company of France. The Satellite is designed to relay and retransmit radio and television signals in both anolog and digital format, which will increase mobile phone communications in the Middle East, Europe, and Africa. The launch occurred at the Baikonur cosmodrome #Russia The husband of imprisoned Pussy Roit band member Nadezhda Tolokonnikova who is on her 7th day of a hunger strike has been placed in a hospital. #Greece The Deputy leader of Neo-facist party "Golden Dawn" and member of the Greek parliament Christos Pappas handed himself into police today.
