In the past few days there has been a lot of negativity on our page and I think its time to address it. If you are upset that the adoption fee on the great dane puppy was more than our regular adoption fee, I think there is something you need to know. WE THINK IT SUCKS TOO!!! Every animal at RVAR is precious to us. Every one deserves an adoption fee as high as that puppy. We are realists though. We know that people with pay more to adopt a pure dog, as crappy as that is. Do any of you know how much money it takes to run an animal shelter? I do and some nights I lose sleep worrying about where that money is going to come from. We care for population of about 150 animals on a yearly budget that is less than the median income for Kankakee County residents. Simply put, we have a responsibility to all of our animals and the decision to charge more for the puppy will keep us in cat litter for a couple weeks. Still have a problem with what we did? I invite you to help us never have to chose to do this again. Simply click on the link at the bottom of this post, search for River Valley Animal Rescue and donate how ever much you choose. Or, you can mail us a check--PO Box 61 Momence, IL 60954. I saw posts tonight about the way we do business and this is distressing to me. First, let me say that we are not a business. We are a nonprofit organization that is completely run by volunteers. None of us get paid. NOT ONE SINGLE PERSON. We have six full time volunteers and a handful of part timers that care for 150 animals. Let me repeat that--SIX FULL TIME VOLUNTEERS AND A FEW PART TIME VOLUNTEERS CARE FOR 150 ANIMALS. Most of them have real jobs, not to mention families and other obligations. They show up day after day because they believe in the work we do and want to make a difference in the lives of unwanted animals. I apologize if one of us forgot return your call, we werent open right at noon or there was some kind of mix up in communication but we are doing the best we can. Still think we need to do better? Then help us by showing up on whatever days you have free, ready to work. If you message the page, one of our volunteer admins will get your information and I will contact you ASAP. And lastly, If you imply in a public forum that the organization I have given hundreds of hours of my time has in any way improperly handled an adoption with out any actual proof, then I will ban you from the page regardless of how well respected you are. Every adoption is personal to us and I wont tolerate anyone slandering the reputation we have worked so hard for. ~Michelle
