In the past going to visit my parents in Northern California always meant a new adventure. Day trips to Tahoe to run the slopes. New and interesting gold mining towns and ,of course, fun places to eat. My mom and dad are always great planners. Im glad I have these sweet and loving memories of a simpler and joyous time on my visits. As I sit at the airport getting ready to board a plane Im a bit more anxious about my visit then in years past. Now is the time when a son shows up for his parents. To help, guide, listen and ultimately make plans for their futures. Its been a few months since our last visit and my moms mental state and memory have deteriorated immensely. Im not sure what to expect. My dad needs me and I want to be with both of them. Im grateful to my two boys ,sound asleep, at home. Im thankful for my countless friends and family that have been showing me love and allowing me the safety to open up and share my journey. Whether its a phone call, a text or social media Im uncomfortable allowing people in, especially when Im struggling. The support and love Im getting are permitting me to appreciate my life and showing me the way with grace. Im missing my family at WAA but I take them with me in this short jaunt.
