In the past three months I have lost a brother, my father and a theatrical mentor, Sheldon Patinkin. Yes, Sheldon, the magic comes in threes. He directed me as an actor in at least eight theatre productions from ID RATHER BE RIGHT where I played a singing and tap dancing FDR to one of six actors singing and dancing in PUTTIN ON THE RITZ. All of these were in Chicago. Sheldon directed my Free Shakespeare Theatre Companys first directed production of MEASURE FOR MEASURE with me as Angelo and Julia Maish as a lovely Isabella. Two years after I first met Sheldon I realized I had first met him (in a way) years before not knowing who he was at the time. It was back in 1973 when I was attending Saturday acting classes at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in NYC. I accidentally entered a balcony that overlooked his rehearsal of some musical revue with several actors including Nancy Dussault. What a wonderful person for me to have crossed paths with in my life! I think it’s more like three degrees of separation with Sheldon, maybe even two. He knew, helped and guided so many. I put together this two minute film in memory of him.
