In the past two weeks, Gov. Cuomo has launched a publicity campaign on homeland security, but he has made no effort to stop Mayor de Blasios undermining of homeland security. From his scheme to give out official IDs to illegal immigrants, to eliminating the NYPDs unit monitoring groups suspected to have radical Islamic ties, to his apparent inability to get federal security clearance, Mayor de Blasio has undermined New Yorks safety. f Governor Cuomo is serious about strengthening homeland security, he could start by holding de Blasio accountable. De Blasios ID scheme is a recipe for fraud. Terrorists and criminals could easily obtain de Blasio IDs to open bank accounts and possibly slip past TSA security at airports under aliases. It undermines the REAL ID Acts security goals. Ending NYPD surveillance of groups with radical ties sent the wrong signal to terrorists. De Blasio was announcing that hes not watching. Hes sending that signal right as ISIS is recruiting in the United States.
