In the photo, Bergdahl is seen posing and grinning with Taliban commander Badruddin Haqqani, according to the Middle East Research Institute (MEMRI).Since Bergdahl disappeared from his post on June 30, 2009 and Haqqani was killed by a drone strike in 2012, it’s uncertain when the photo was taken.The same Twitter account later posted that Bergdahl was never tortured and was treated with kindness.The newly released photo goes hand in hand with Bergdahl’s confession in private letters to his parents:“The future is too good to waste on lies. And life is way too short to care for the damnation of others,” he wrote.“I have seen their ideas and I am ashamed to even be American.”Bergdahl has yet to make a public statement or been questioned about the photo, as investigators will not allow any interviews with him until those treating him fully release him.
