In the playoff one of my students Drew Petrie caddied for me. We - TopicsExpress

In the playoff one of my students Drew Petrie caddied for me. We had a funny moment on hole one. I hit a good tee shot that ended up kind of under a pine tree. Clean lie clear path but an overhanging limb. I turned to Drew and asked What is the one thing I must do? I know all my TLU players know this answer but Drew kind of batted this one around for a few seconds. Finally I said to him In this situation the one thing you must do is MISS THE TREE. Now Drew gave me a funny look but he tells me he looked over at the USGA Official behind me and the guy started chuckling when he heard my teaching to Drew. I proceeded to take a 7 iron from 140, do my tour player good hands face aware thing and hit a little de-lofted back in the stance trap cut to 18 feet from the hole. Absolutely no big deal to me. The two hour drive back to Casper was a tutorial on how to play when you are in trouble and maybe I have lit a fire in this young man to learn hands, face, trajectory, safety, and all the intangibles it takes to play tournament golf. Oh for the record the high T young guns think it is a birthright to hit a gap wedge 140 and probably half the D3 guys I witnessed would have hit the tree. If you can hit a gap wedge 140 you certainly can back it down and hit a 7 iron 140. Now learn!
