In the previous post, I have mentioned about the resolution which we, the young ones of my village had made to usher in development of our village. For us, Baudhik (intellectual) development was also very important. I have already mentioned that most part of my B.SC. course was completed during emergency. The emergency had been clamped because Jay Prakash Narain had virtually waged a war against the dispensation of the day. He effectively utilized the energy of youth in order to awaken the society. After the emergency was lifted, he became role model for us. He was advocating all round development of society. His model was known as ‘Sampurna Kranti’(Total revolution). He was struggling to change not only the political system but even social and economic system. Having been impressed with impressed with the vision of Jay Prakash Narain, we formed ‘Jai Prakash Vichar Manch’. In our agenda, however, not only the social, political, and economic issues were included, ‘Vaicharik’ and ‘Sanskritik’ Kranti were also included. For the aforesaid purpose, we conceived to form a body of youths with well- defined rules and regulations for its functioning. We named this body as ‘Yuvak Mangal Dal’. Thus the directive principles of the ‘Yuvak Mangal Dal’ was social, political, economic, Vaicharik and Sanskritik development of our village. We formulated rules and regulations for the said body on the lines of the procedures laid down for functioning of Parliament. This proposal was put before the general body of youths of my village in one evening. Since this body was giving platform for discussion, all youths became ready to participate in the affairs of the body. With the approval of the general body, we created several the posts in the body. The posts such as Chairman, Deputy Chairman, Speaker, Deputy Speaker, General Secretary, Secretary (Cultural Affairs, Library etc), Secretary (Sports) etc. were created. The seniormost members among us were made the Chairman, General Secretary, Secretary (Cultural Affairs, Library etc), Secretary (Sports) of the said body. One of my close friend was made Speaker. I was made Deputy Chairman-cum- Deputy Speaker. As per the rules and regulations, meetings were used to be held on weekly basis on Sunday evening in the primary school. Initially, announcement of the meeting was used to be made by way of drum beating and all the people of the village were used to be invited to hear us in the meeting. Therefore, the people of our village became aware of the fact every Sunday a meeting of the Yuvak Mangal Dal was held in the primary school. The meeting used to be presided by the speaker, report card of each functionary of the body used to be put up in the meeting and fierce discussions used to be made. Sometimes allegations by the ordinary members used to be also made against the functionary. Yuvak Mangal Dal also used to celebrate Independence Day and Republic Day. On these occasions, we used to organize speech completion, debate, sports. Prize to winners and sweets to all used distributed. Organising celebrations of Independence Day and Republic Day and various events on these occasion resulted into inclination of youths towards acquiring more and more knowledge about freedom struggle, politics, society etc. among the youth of my village. At the same time, the people of the village who used to come and watch the celebration out of curiosity were becoming more and more aware of the issues which were the subject matter of the debates and discussions. This way, we were creating and developing the intellectual property (Baudhik Sampada) not only among the youth but also among the general public of the village. What I stress here is that at least those of us who have still roots in the village should go to the villages and motivate the youth of the villages to form such an body on village level and make efforts in whatever manner to usher in development in the villages.
