In the recent news about the police killings in our country I would like to share something personal with you. I was always a good kid, never got into any type of trouble. My father as a Marine, my mom was a homemaker. I joined the military right out of high school and served 20 years. Ive never been to jail, and Im working on my 3rd degree. I have a nice truck that I paid 40 grand for and Ive always considered myself a good citizen to my fellow humans. In high school I was on the list to become homecoming King with another student who was white. The homecoming queen was white and when the time for nomination came guess what? For the first time in the schools history there is a tie for homecoming King. Now could I prove it was a tie? Not really and it really didnt bother me because I was dating someone at the time and I danced with her. Which brings me to my point, 2 months after I was retired I was called a N*gger by some old white men. Could I have went off? Sure but what point would that prove? I would have only stepped down to their levels of ignorance. They knew nothing about me, didnt know that I deployed multiple times to fight for my country. You see, I am still better than that and refuse to play along with the stereotype. People only see skin color and for me it doesnt matter what I have done in my life, no matter what I accomplish in this world before I die. Some people will only see a Black man and not a fellow human being. We will only know true peace when all races come together to fight for what is right.
