In the recent wake of events at IITK, I just had a talk with a candidate who was NOT shortlisted and its saddening the way things have been projected and executed. I apologize for a pretentious-looking view that I had about the process earlier today. Seriously now that I know of the view of both sides, the way things were conducted were UNFAIR in not just some but a lot of parts. The organizations have blind faith in the PPO/Visiting alumni candidates because they partially are part of their organization; but, it does not mean that these candidates start misusing their power (and Im not implying that they have, but if they have, they have not executed it in the manner expected). There is no need for a witch hunt here. There is nothing called a DB WALE SENIOR. For god sake, people please stop following herds and making stupid notions in your mind. The organizations lazy behavior at not conducting tests is highly responsible for this nuisance. People who are angry at the exclusion of certain good candidates is completely justified and the fact that a JUGAAD was projected is even worse. What I would recommend to all students who read this, as a concerned alumni, is that such internship opportunities ARE JUST A MEANS, AND NOT AN END. Do not consider them the end of your life. If someone gets into some firm, good for them. But, does it tell you are bad at something. No Sirs and Madams. NO. NOT AT ALL. Anger is completely JUSTIFIED. Do one thing. Involve any authority you may wish to. Boycott such companies for placements. They need to understand that the power they entrusted in their people is being MISUSED and unless they RECTIFY their processes, they would not be allowed to interact with students. When we are in campus, we see 800 students... 100 good companies. But, when we are out there, we are 1 IITian... 10000 awesome companies. It is a continual process of poor projection of jobs, placements, resumes and stuff for which none other than WE are responsible. If someone was HURT BY MY VIEWS, Ill tell you something. I dont sugarcoat stuff and backstab you later. Im blunt but I have no intentions of demeaning people. Im just against focus on resumes and less on real skills. People who have interacted with me in previous years know that if you deserve it, Ill fight tooth and nail for you. Not because I want a favor later on, but because that is how seniors and alumni should be. Also, this is an AMA post. You can ask me anything on this either on FB or on Quora. I hope my efforts would not be taken in a wrong taste. I have the best of intentions. As far as the open question asked to me on Quora is considered: I have not given any recommendations. I am not a part of DB or any organization as such. I was called up by a friend when this witch hunt began to just look into what has begun and I felt that the direction of the debate has gone haywire.
