In the string of comments in the post just below, my nephew, Jeff Hansen, posted a photo of my mom with a big box of cards. I tried to move it and failed--no surprise there. But if youd like to see her, just scroll down, shes sitting on her sofa wearing her festive vest. (Ill post todays card tally later this afternoon. And Ill post another picture of her on Christmas Day.) This ...phenomenon, I guess youd call it, has grown and grown, and I am gratified in so many ways. Not just because my mom has gotten so many cards, although I do love that. But more because of the way that this has reminded me of peoples inherent goodness and generosity of spirit. Some of you have talked about spreading this idea in other ways--sending cards --at any time-- to a resident at a place where senior citizens live, for example. I think thats a great idea. And there are so many other things we can do, too. As we have seen, a seemingly small thing can have a mighty effect. And the joy goes both ways because it really does feel good to be the one giving. I cant wait to see all these cards. Im going to ask my mom today for a description of a few of them--maybe youll recognize yours!
