In the studio this week we have started to make patterns for several of our newer brides, one of whom has inspired today’s post! She wants her gown to be so dramatic and amazing that it would suit a queen… so we thought over the next few days we would reminisce about some of our favourite royal weddings! TODAYS ROYAL BRIDE: Grace Kelly One of my favorite royal weddings was that of American actress, Grace Kelly, to Prince Rainier III. Grace began her acting career at the age of 20 only to end it six short years later after falling in love and marrying her future husband, Prince Rainier. Their love story began when they met at the Cannes Film Festival in April of 1955, however at the time Grace was dating French actor Jean-Pierre Aumont. After the festival ended Grace returned to the states but kept in contact with her European prince starting a private correspondence. After later meeting again, this time Grace was single, the love struck prince proposed to her after only three days! The storybook romance continues with the “Wedding of the Century,” as named by the press. It took place over two days; on April 18, 1956 the couple had their civil ceremony in the Throne Room at the castle in Monaco, following this was the reception of which over 3,000 Monaco citizens attended. The next day their Roman Catholic ceremony was preformed in Saint Nicholas’ Cathedral with over 700 guests. That night the couple then sailed into the sunset for their seven-week honeymoon cruise through the Mediterranean. Of course what we are all dying to talk about is her dress. Designed by the award-winning designer, Helen Rose, Grace’s dress is one of the most iconic wedding gowns in history. The long lace sleeves and high mandarin collar has influenced many different gowns today. Some people even say it influenced the gown Kate Middleton wore on her wedding day to Prince William. What do you think of the fashion icons wedding gown; would you wear something similar? Oh and how about that seven-week cruise? Talk about a luxury honeymoon! In honor of their amazing honeymoon we’ve found an amazing competition for you! You could win a honeymoon comparable to Grace’s! Be whisked away to Crete to celebrate your marriage like royalty.
