In the three-way contest to be the GOP candidate in the November election for Register of Deeds, Chaunee Baker of Newport, a register of deeds employees, was headed to an easy victory over Claremont attorney Jim Feleen and Debra Searles, who works in the Sullivan County Attorney’s Office. With 11 towns reporting, including Newport and Claremont, Baker had 1,704 votes to 613 for Searles and 706 for Feleen. Baker, who has worked at the county office for 32 years, the last 15 as deputy to Sharron King, won all towns that had reported by comfortable margins
