In the vast tumult of the sea the box was but a speck. A wooden mote tossed and thrown from one careless wave to the next. Above the rage of endless waters the heavens were a myriad of colors, as the sun ran its slow course to the very edge of the world. On the top of the ocean, the fragile crate would have been all but impossible for any but the keenest eyes to detect. Even more difficult to discern would have been the striking green eyes of the girl who watched the disappearance of the sun. She wore a look of such sadness and sorrow that even the coldest of hearts would have experienced hot flashes at their tiniest glance. It was not merely the loss of the heat and light the sun brought that contributed to her mood. She was not the only inhabitant of the box. In her lap her love lay, his brow slick with fevered sweat. His breathing was shallow and his dreams restless. There had been little food left for them when they had been set adrift. The sickness had consumed him and left her all alone in the expanse able to do nothing but watch love waste, and count the many deaths of the sun.
