In the waiting area of the Hospital Orthotics Dept, impatiently awaiting my ever ‘running late Orthotic Professional in anticipation of my new leg. To break the tedium, and with my sisters encouragement, I pretended to be dead, face down on the floor to give us all a laugh and to lift the room. Some patients in the area got behind it, a few felt a little awkward and looked straight ahead determined not to notice, others, I think, found it quite distasteful, but in all fairness those were the ones closest to death, which I understood so didn’t hold it against them. An Orderly and a Nurse walked right passed me without flinching, and I decided that both had seen enough death to know a dead man when they saw one, so I forgave their indifference and let that go too. Any hospital visit is an ordeal, we should do whatever it takes to get us through it :)
