In the wake of Ferguson, Eric Garner, Tamir Rice, the list goes on, I feel this poem of mine is appropriate to share. We obviously live in a society which systematically oppresses us. Whether in keeping Black bodies enslaveable (timeline: slavery, Jim Crow, prison-industrial complex), or in positing Native peoples as an inevitably disappearing group (in order to once justify outright genocide, and to now justify land-grabs for development, mining, fracking, national parks, etc.), or in constructing foreigners as a constant threat (immigration laws, constant warfare in the Middle East, etc.), a capitalist, White Supremacist society is a reality that most humans do not have the privilege of ignoring. Does the phrase White Supremacy scare you? Why?
