In the wake of the recent shooting spree at UC Santa Barbara, we are disappointed to see a familiar theme arise. News coverage and conversation following the tragic event has touched on speculation that Elliot Rodger was on the autism spectrum. It’s important to remember that people who are on the autism spectrum are no more or less likely to be violent than people without autism and that as a society we must be careful to never stigmatize people with disabilities. We hope all of you in the disability community will raise your voice and share your perspective as this conversation continues in the media.
